Chiang Rai area features several tea plantations, and the biggest, most famous ones are Choui Fong Tea Plantations, which we will briefly review here. **Other tea plantations I’ve visited and found very impressive are the plantations at Singha Park which I will cover in a separate article.
Choui Fong Tea Plantations are a private/family business, successfully administered by Ms. Shanya Chang who inherited it from her father. This is the largest business of its kind in Chiang Rai, and the diverse tea types that are produced here for 50 years, are considered high-quality products; they are marketed worldwide, and mostly sold to Europe, U.S.A, Taiwan, and Japan.
The tea plantations spread over a wide piece of land, on the mountain slopes and at a 1,200 meters height above the sea level, creating ‘stairs’ or levels on the hillsides and thus a beautiful scenery. You can walk around freely, explore the plantations and enjoy the fresh air and lovely landscape that surrounds you.
The place also has a coffee shop/restaurant with tasty food, pastries and of course, different kinds of tea.
