TipTop Travel offers the opportunity to sample some amazing, popular, authentic Thai dishes when you join our tours. In this article, we would like to introduce you to the world of Thai cuisine by counting down the 5 most delicious Thai dishes that you have to try!

1.      Tom Yum Soup

You can’t say you’ve visited Thailand without trying Tom Yum Soup. It’s one of the most famous hot and sour Thai soups. The most popular protein used in the soup is shrimp, but you can also find Tom Yum pork or chicken in some restaurants.

The soup usually consists of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, a bit of lime juice, a bit of fish sauce, and some chopped red chilies. The combination of the right amount of heat and sourness makes this dish more than just a ‘delicious Thai dish’ and it became the most popular Thai dish of all time.

2.      Pad Krapow

While Tom Yum Soup is well known for foreigners, Pad Krapow is a go-to dish that Thai people love. The dish is basically stir-fried meat (pork, chicken, beef, seafood) with Thai holy basil and garlic, seasoned with fish sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and some red chilies served on top of rice and often topped on with Thai style sunny side fried egg.

Pad Krapow is usually a little spicy but you can request it chili-free and still be able to enjoy the taste of Thai without having to worry about your stomach later on.

3.      Som Tum

Som Tum is another famous dish for both Thais and foreigners. It’s a Thai papaya salad consisting of unripe papaya slices, mint leaves, Thai basil, chilies, green beans, tomatoes, roasted peanuts, dried shrimp, sugar, ginger, and garlic.

Some types of Som Tum may add Thai style anchovy sauce or blue crab which adds more texture and flavor to the dish. Som tum is known for its perfect combination of sweet, spicy, sour, and salty elements, and with no doubt, is one of the most popular Thai dishes.

4.      Pad Thai

You might have noticed already that the word “Thai” is a part of the name of the dish. So, will you be able to show off to your friends that you’ve visited Thailand without trying Pad Thai? I don’t think so. Pad Thai is a stir-fried noodle with meat (chicken, beef, shrimp, or tofu), peanuts, eggs, bean sprouts, some other vegetables, and Pad Thai sauce.

The dish is a little sweet, tangy and salty, you can also add some chili flakes if you like it spicy. Pad Thai was ranked number 5 on a list of “World’s 50 most delicious food” in 2011, so it is undoubtedly one of the most delicious street food in Thailand.

5.      Mango Sticky Rice

After talking about all the amazing main dishes, there’s no way we’re finishing this article without one of the most delicious Thai desserts, Mango Sticky Rice. It’s well known for its unique taste of sticky rice, sweetened with sugar and coconut milk, paired with some ripe, sweet mango.

The dish is usually topped with a drizzle of coconut cream and some sprinkles of mung bean. Mango Sticky Rice is heavenly, truly delicious. Try it, and you won’t be disappointed.
